Handy software tools

Tools used to write software.

  1. Tiddlywiki. A way to store your notes offline in a self-updating HTML file based on Javascript. With an add-on it even supports markdown! Tiddlywiki is most like the old 1980s Apple Hypercard stack. This uses its own wiki formatting, it also supports Markdown with an addon. To store them online and access them from any browser go to the free Tiddlyhost.
  2. Notepad++. A great, free text editor with lots of features and add-ons.
  3. PSpad. This is also a great, free text editor. But it would insert garbage into my file sometimes so I had to stop using it. And there was only 1 other person who had this problem too.
  4. Python programming language main site. Free. There are many more supported libraries at Pypi. Install extra libraries using "pip" after you install Python. There's a major discussion group at Discuss.python.org.

Misc stuff on this site

  1. My local Color picker in JavaScript with hex RGB code.
  2. JS calendar test. This reads events from a plain text file events.txt with each line having 3 columns: Date (YYYY-MM-DD format), Title, and Description with colons separating each field. This plain text file makes it easy and quick to update using the Neocities editor, or update it offline and upload a new copy. View eventstest.txt to see the actual file format (this file is a different file than the one used.)
